Episode 2
Kristian Digby builds his own dream house. Concrete for the foundations goes in but the misalignment of a steel girder adds thousands to the building budget.
When TV presenter Kristian Digby set his heart on owning a stylish contemporary property in London, his options - and his budget - were limited. But this was not going to put him off. The solution was simple: instead of buying his dream home, he would build it!
Using his back garden for a plot, Kristian is convinced he can build his perfect pad in nine months and with a tiny budget of 150,000 pounds. But self-building is not for the fainthearted and what follows is a rollercoaster ride as Kristian struggles to prevent his dream home turning into a nightmare.
In this episode, work begins on the foundations of Kristian's house but, when the concrete is being poured, Kristian's dad David literally gets stuck in! Plus a steel girder, erected incorrectly, adds thousands to Kristian's tight budget.
Kristian also meets the couple who have built an eco-home on a tiny plot in the heart of Brighton and tries his hand at joinery at the Leeds College of Building.
Also in the programme is the self-builder who went for the mediaeval look when he built a replica castle from scratch and the retired financial consultant in Matlock who is having to compromise to build his dream home.
