Goldie examines the impact of a once niche musical genre on popular culture, focusing on music, but also fashion, sport, business and politics. He looks at the origins of hip hop and some of the major artists, exploring what made it so successful and what the future holds for rap.

Beginning in New York's South Bronx area and culminating in the White House, the documentary includes contributions from pioneers DJ Kool Herc, Afrika Bambaataa and Grandmaster Flash, plus legends Run DMC, Beastie Boys, Suge Knight, MC Hammer and Eminem.
