Joining Jools are Muse, Florence and the Machine, Lyle Lovett and The Gossip. Plus performances from singer-songwriter Alela Diane and Jimmy Cobb.
Later with Jools Holland returns for a ten-week run.
The first show in this series features Devon's stadium rock lords Muse, who are performing tracks from their brand new fifth album The Resistance; Mercury-nominated pop powerhouse Florence and the Machine; Texan legend and Grammy winner Lyle Lovett, who is performing a number or two from his upcoming album Natural Forces, the follow-up to 2007's It's Not Big It's Large; also Jimmy Cobb's A Kind of Blue at 50 - Jimmy drummed on Miles Davis' landmark album A Kind Of Blue and is the last surviving musician from the original line-up; also on the show Beth Ditto's Gossip with a couple of tracks from their recent album Music For Men and Nevada singer-songwriter Alela Diane, who has toured with The Decemberists, Vashti Bunyan and Iron and Wine, is making her Later debut with tracks from her To Be Still album.
As a taster of some of the 60 plus artists appearing in this series, Later... with Jools Holland will feature the likes of fast-rising king of pop, East London's own Dizzee Rascal, Alabama's 'Empress of Soul' Gladys Knight, and one of the most important men in Hip Hop, Jay-Z. Plus, the mighty Foo Fighters will be paying a return visit to the show, and there will be performances from US neo-soul pioneer Maxwell and one of the kings of easy listening, Andy Williams. Latin-pop queen Shakira will be making her Later debut.
Since 1992, Later has featured performances from some of the biggest and hottest names in music, with the 2009 spring series welcoming The Specials, Carole King, Depeche Mode, Sonic Youth, Guurumul, Grizzly Bear, Booker T, Lisa Hannigan, New York Dolls, Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, Kasabian and Paolo Nutini.
