The Investigation β€” Trident: Still deadly after all these years?

Should we renew Britain's nuclear deterrent, or pension it off? Ken MacDonald reports and Graham Stewart takes your calls.

Should we renew Britain's nuclear deterrent, or pension it off?

In a quiet corner of Scotland reside four submarines and 200 thermonuclear warheads ready to defend Britain and her people in the event of an attack. But is the renewal of Trident a throwback to a cold war threat that no longer exists, as well as a colossal waste of money during a worldwide recession?

Ken MacDonald meets with Helensborough residents, many of whom work at the country's largest single employer site in Faslane, and finds out how their lives would be affected if Trident was scrapped. He also talks to those on both sides of the debate on whether the renewal of Trident is right for the people of Scotland and necessary for the defence of the nation. And, with a general election not far off, just what impact will the battle over Trident have on the relationship between Westminster and Holyrood?

Graham Stewart takes your calls, texts and emails.
