The work and pensions secretary has announced a review into the idea. James Purnell says the government wants to help people get the assistance they need and points to similar measures for drug addicts which are currently going through Parliament. But critics say alcoholism is an illness which can't be "bullied" away and that stopping someone's benefits could have a real impact on any children they may have.
