Scientists writing in the British Medical Journal argue that positive financial incentives are effective in helping smokers kick their habit. It comes as the first smokers in Dundee sign-up to a scheme which could see them receive Β£150 worth of groceries if they can give up cigarettes for 12 weeks. Will it work, or is this nothing more than an expensive bribe funded by the taxpayer?
