British Sign Language magazine. Deaf people who have experienced financial difficulties due to the credit crunch speak out. They explain how the Citizens' Advice Bureau helped.
With front page headlines warning us of an impending recession and an alarming rise in unemployment the financial forecast for the new year is bleak. See Hear meets deaf people who have experienced financial difficulties. We also interview a particularly determined deaf Taekwondo competitor who dreams of going to the Deaflympics next year, and we give you the latest update on who's been selected for the Great Britain Deaf Football Team to represent us at the Deaflympics in 2009.
DEBT - CREDIT CRUNCH
No one can escape the fact that the world economy is in trouble. This has an effect on all of us, deaf and hearing alike. See Hear meets three deaf people who have experienced that crunch first hand; one who got into trouble with loans and contracts because he didn't understand the small print, another who was made redundant and a third whose credit cards got out of control. Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ financial expert Robert Peston explains why we're in this mess and the Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) shows us what they can do to help deaf people take control of their debts.
ANDREW YICK – TAEKWONDO
Every four years, the country hosting the deaflmpics chooses a few more sports to include in the competition. Fortunately for Britain, Taipei have chosen Karate, Judo and TaeKwonDo - the sport of Bruce Lee lookalike Andrew Yick. We meet Andrew and his mum, and relive the fantastic memories of the Melbourne Deaflympics with a nostalgic look through some of the footage from the games.
STUDIO DISCUSSION ON GB FOOTBALL TEAM
Memnos and Radha are joined in the studio by Steve Wherry, Vice Chair of Deaf UK Sports, and Nick Beese, Melbourne Deaflympics Gold medal winner, to talk about the success the GB men's football team enjoyed in Melbourne and plans to raise the funds to get the boys to Taipei now that UK Sports have cut the funding. They also discuss whether Deaflympians should compete in the Paralympics, as that's where all the funding is being directed. We talk to some of the guys who tried out for the 2009 GB football men's team and find out who made it through.
