Britons must stop wasting food in an effort to help combat rising living costs, according to the Prime Minister. Gordon Brown thinks people should plan meals in advance, store fruit and vegetables properly and avoid 'three-for-two' offers if they're not going to eat it all. But, in the face of growing superpowers like China, can the average Scottish housewife do anything that would make that much of a difference?

A report launched at the British Medical Association conference in Edinburgh today calls for all films and TV programmes which portray positive images of smoking to be preceded by an anti-smoking advert, and for film censors to take into account pro-smoking content when classifying films.
