Clare Teal presents a retrospective on the life and work of jazz pianist Oscar Peterson, who died in December 2007.

1/2. She explores how a working class black Canadian became one of the greatest jazz pianists in the world, charting Oscar's development from highly talented but derivative musician to a consummate individual, and examining how his technique and invention, together with his increasing ability as a composer, came together to form one of the seminal piano styles in jazz. She also assesses his legacy, in particular, his generosity as a collaborator and the affection in which he is held worldwide.

Featuring interviews with Oscar Peterson himself as well as friends, admirers and collaborators, including former Canadian prime minister Jean Chretien, jazz aficionados and critics Gene Lees, Phil Nimmons and Bill King and Universal Jazz executive and friend Scott Morin.
