Laurie Taylor is joined by John Murray Brown to discuss the new found wealth of the Irish and explores how the culture of Ireland has been affected by this change of fortunes.
WEALTHY IRISH AND SANDWICHES
The Republic of Ireland has experienced enormous change since 1970, change which has brought an almost completely unexpected wave of prosperity. Ireland used to be a poor country but according to the Bank of Ireland there are now 30,000 Euro millionaires – that in a population of only 5 million. This week Laurie explores how the culture of Ireland has been affected by this change of fortunes and will be asking what it did in order to let the good times roll in. The historian Roy Foster has said that after centuries of misfortune, the Irish finally got lucky. He, along with the Financial Times Ireland Correspondent, John Murray Brown discuss the wealth of the Irish.Β
