The reinforcements arrive at the Lodge.
The family are making an effort to take care of Peggy, for whom life is getting increasingly difficult. Tony turns up to put new mortice locks on the doors for her, so that she can prevent Jack's night wanderings into the garden. Peggy is very grateful - and delighted when Adam and Ian turn up; Ian bringing a supply of pre-cooked meals for the freezer. Peggy is touched by all their care.
Alistair goes up to see his dad, Professor Jim Lloyd, who has broken his leg. It in Scotland so it's a long haul. Alistair phones home, not in the best of spirits. His dad has discharged himself from hospital, because the doctors were fools, the nurses tyrants, and the other patients imbeciles. He's decided the best thing he can do is come and stay with Shula and Alistair until he's better. This is appalling news for Shula, who doesn't get on with Jim. But there's nothing they can do, and nowhere else he can go.
