Chris finds that blood's thicker than water.
Pat is shocked to hear from Tony that he came home early last night and 'spoilt' Brenda and Tom's evening together; no wonder they are determined to get a place of their own. Tony thinks that the cost will make it impossible for them to buy.
It's Susan and Neil's 23rd wedding anniversary and they are having a celebration meal. Christopher's girlfriend Netia is coming. Susan worries that the evening won't be posh enough for her and they'll let Christopher down. Chris has told Netia about his Uncle Clive being an armed robber; she's fascinated and he's worried she'll bring the subject up in front of Susan and embarrass her.
Neil teases Susan about her overly careful preparations for the meal. Her vegetarian food is lovely and Netia is impressed, although she floors Susan with her request for champagne as an aperitif. The evening is hard going, with Netia bringing up the subject of the fascinating Uncle Clive. Neil thinks she's a spoilt little madam, and later, when Netia laughs at Neil and Susan's lifestyle and attitudes, Chris firmly tells her she can say what she likes about her own family, but he doesn't like her criticising his.
