Gum Tree Country

Episode 4 of 6

Series exploring the wildlife and landscape of Australia. This programme looks at the gum tree woodlands that are home to many of Australia's best-known creatures.

'The bush' is the classic Australian landscape - and these weird and magical gum tree woodlands are home to the most famous Aussie animals. Koalas climb among the leaves with their tiny babies clinging onto their backs, and brilliantly coloured parrots flit around and feed on spectacular flowers. Kangaroos graze in the woodland shade - and astonishingly, swim in the rivers among the trees.

This is a place full of surprises, where prehistoric-looking lizards leap from the trees, and at night, strange possums and gliders emerge, filling the woodlands with ghostly sounds. The bush is a land of the unexpected.
