Cinema during wartime
Activity
- Entertainment played an important part during the war keeping everyone happy. In between showing the films, people watched the Pathe news at the cinema to help them keep informed, or possibly misinformed, on how the war was going. Information films were also shown at the cinema to show people how to behave and act during war.
- Why did people enjoy going to the Cinema?
- Think about how Lizzie and Tommy would feel during the whole cinema part of the story. Work with a partner and discuss their changing emotions and feelings.

- During WW2 waste was not tolerated, clothing was strictly rationed, and a woolly jumper was a precious thing.
- Why did Mrs Mitchell knit?
- How does knitting help to relieve stress?
- Can you try to knit a square? The squares could all be joined together to make a blanket.
