Matt's top tips for veganuary
Matt Pritchard shares his top tips for surviving veganuary.
No.1: Do your research
“Do some research first and look into various meals. Food, breakfast, lunches, dinners...”
No.2: Plan your meals
“There's nothing like making Veganuary easier than planning meal plans. Just say right, Monday this is what I'm going to have for breakfast, this is what I'm going to have for lunch, this is what I'm going to have for dinner. Write it all down, Tuesdays are the same and so forth.”
No.3: Check food labels
“What you think will be vegan not always is. So when you go shopping look at the ingredients … they're normally in bold writing.”
No.4: Stock up your cupboards
“As soon as the supermarkets open after Christmas, get into the supermarket and buy everything you need, stockpile your cupboards and you've got it all there ready for you.”
No.5: Focus on what you can eat
“Focus on those things that you really, really like and you really, really enjoy about veganism and just block out those cravings for things that you used to eat, like meat and dairy and eggs.”
No.6: Don't panic
“If you do slip up, don't worry about it. Don't beat yourself up. Just let bygones be bygones and carry on again.”
No.7: Go out for dinner
“If you're struggling to cook or you're one of these people that doesn't like cooking, there's many, many good vegan restaurants around. If you don't want to go just to a vegan restaurant, so many of the other restaurants are now providing great vegan options.”
No.8: Experiment
“At the end of the day, food is meant to be fun. Experiment with your food, experiment with things, spices and different meals. You could surprise yourself and cook up a right storm.”
