Summary: Chinese New Year marks the start of a new lunar year and falls in January/February. It is celebrated with gifts, fireworks and dragon and lion dances and culminates on the 15th day with a lantern festival. It is thought to be largest annual human migration as Chinese return home to spend time with their families.

A young member of the Chinese community in the UK tells us about the festival of Chinese New Year and why she enjoys it so much...
The 15-day festival begins with spring cleaning: everyone joins in with cleaning the home ready for the New Year. The festival is celebrated with new clothes, gifts of money and special food. There are parades - including dragon and lion dances - and the festivities culminate in fireworks and beautiful lantern displays.
