Right Here: can M.O match the best summer girl group tunes?

M.O bring back the classic girl group summer anthem

M.O are a contradiction of a band. They take their name from a Drake song - as millennial as you can get without five-figure debt, surely.

But their actual modus operandi is to bring back vintage girl group sounds. Influenced by 90s acts like TLC and the start of J.Lo's career, they're about mixing R&B and pop the way it used to be. Their biggest hit so far, 'Dance On My Own', sampled Sweet Female Attitude's 'Flowers' - a 1999 track old enough to be in a girl group itself by the time of M.O's track.

M.O themselves are part of recent girl group history, drawing members from former acts Mini Viva and Duchess. Will 'Who Do You Think Of' join the ranks of classic summer tracks?

We look at the best girl group summer jams to compare:

TLC - Unpretty

Legendary for their outspoken interviews, futuristic style and err, use of condoms as a fashion accessory, TLC are one of the most classic girl groups of the 90s.

'Unpretty' is from their final album, 'Fanmail' and turns the heavy topic of low self-esteem to an emotional but undeniably summery track.

The song discusses abusive relationships and depression, advocating self-love and body positivity. In a season of "bikini bodies" and thigh chafing, most of us can always do with a few reminders that our worth isn't dependent on what we think we look like and 'Unpretty' was a massive hit. It's near-impossible to hear that guitar line without grabbing the nearest hairbrush to bellow it out with your mates.

Destiny's Child - Say My Name

It might seem weird to see Beyoncé as part of a group now but 'Say My Name' was a massive hit for Destiny's Child.

The group was still a four-piece at this point, having just replaced original members LeToya and LaTavia with Michelle and Farrah. Although cracks were already starting to show in the group's set-up and Beyoncé's rising star, it would be another half-decade before they went on an indefinite hiatus.

'Say My Name' shows some of the self-assured, powerful style that would become Beyoncé's signature sound and was Destiny's Child's first really massive breakout hit.

Without it, we might not even have 'Lemonade' - or the perfect track for a summer roadtrip singalong for the past sixteen years.

SWV - Right Here

One of the most classic summer tracks ever, 'Right Here' was SWV's biggest hit.

The most famous version of the song is actually a remix, released as a single in its own right, that samples Michael Jackson and includes spoken vocals by a teenage Pharrell Williams.

Unmistakably summery, it's a live-in-the-moment track that still gets played a lot as the temperature rises - 25 years after it was recorded.
