Reporting Counterfeit Medicines being Sold Online
On our programme on Thursday 28th November 2024, Rip Off Britain covered the story of counterfeit weight loss drugs being sold online, that have put numerous lives at risk.
In HQ, we spoke to Andy Morling, Head of the Criminal Enforcement Unit at the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) about the problem. Andy advised that if you suspect you've been sold a medicine that is not genuine, or may be unlicensed in the UK, then you should not take it. He warned that if a medicine is unlicensed, it will not have been assessed by the MHRA for its safety, effectiveness or the quality of its manufacturing and distribution processes. Anyone buying such a product cannot be sure what it contains or whether it will cause them harm.
You should report any suspected counterfeit or unregulated to the MHRA via its Yellow Card reporting site or directly to the MHRA’s Criminal Enforcement Unit
