Job Scams

On the programme on Monday 3rd June 2024, we featured an item about Job Scams. We interviewed Keith Rosser, chair of JobsAware, who gave the following advice to avoid the growing problem:

“So some of the signs are: very generalised job titles; and no barriers or requirements to apply for the job - because the fraudsters want as many people to apply for that job as possible. Then - pace and pressure as soon as the person's applied, because fraudsters just want the person signed up and they want to scam them. Having said all of that, it’s not a perfect science, and it's this stuff is really clever.”

We also interviewed Anna, who had previously fallen victim to a job scam. She said:

“Definitely do your due diligence. Talk to your friends, family. Perhaps they could advise you. And then if it doesn't feel right, probably isn't right.”
