Matt's top tips for a vegan Christmas

From turkey alternatives to vegan presents, Matt shares his top tips for a vegan Christmas

No.1: Tell your guests
“If you’re going to plan on making a vegan dinner, and you have guests coming round, make sure you tell those guests it’s going to be a vegan dinner.”

No.2: Turkey alternatives
“You could do a Beetroot Wellington, which is absolutely tasty. Celeriac steaks! Celeriac steaks are absolutely banging. They taste nice as well.”

No.3: Satisfying meat-eaters
“How would I satisfy a meat-eater? I'd give him a big hug and a kiss.”

No.4: Christmas desserts
“I love vegan meringue … made out of aquafaba, which is chickpea juice from the tin, with vanilla, coconut cream and fresh berries. Give it a go, it tastes absolutely delicious. And it's very Christmassy because you can use Christmas berries.”

No.5: Vegan alcohol
“Now we all like to get merry at Christmas. Tipple here, tipple there. Not all alcoholic drinks are vegan … Check white wines, check red wines and look for the vegan logo on the back. There's a lot of vegan-based lager and beer on the market at the moment, so you shouldn't struggle.”

No.6: Vegan nibbles
“With drinks, it's always nice to have some nibbles. I'd say my best vegan nibbles, are baba ghanoush, hummus … there's so much choice when you go to supermarkets these days so there's plenty of vegan nibbles and plenty of vegan everything, really."

No.7: Vegan presents
“Well, what do I buy my vegan friends? I just go into my garden, cut my lawn and give them a box of grass (laughs). I don't really. There's actually a lot of vegan chocolates on the market at the moment, which are really, really delicious. So there's one good present.”
