The Ship: When Glasgow’s industrial heritage was turned into a work of art

Glasgow was transformed by becoming the , developing a reputation as one of the most creatives cities in the UK.
Thousands of shows took place that year, including The Ship.
But Bill Bryden's play about Glasgow's shipbuilding past didn't take place on a stage in a city centre theatre. Instead the audiences came to the home of Glaswegian shipbuilding, Govan.
In an abandoned Harland and Wolff workshop, where mighty engines were once put together, a ship was built and launched in front of them.

While the Herald's theatre critic Mary Brennan argued that the , the audience reaction was glowing.
One Glaswegian remarked on his way out of the workshop that, "As the ship went down... your heart went with it".
