Your trust is very important to us. This means the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ is committed to protecting the privacy and security of your personal data. It is important that you read this notice, so that you are aware of how and why we are using such personal data. This privacy notice describes how we collect and use personal data about you during and after your relationship with us, in accordance with data protection law.
Why are we doing this and how can you participate?
Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio Scotland Young Classical Musician is an award hosted by Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Scotland to promote classical music in Scotland. The competition is open to any musicians between the ages of 18 and 24 who have been living in Scotland for at least a year.
Applications are accepted online, and the top nine (9) applicants are selected to take part in the semi-finals to be held at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. Three performers will be selected from the semi-finals round to perform with the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔSSO in held in City Halls, Glasgow for the grand final. All dates are available on application, and applicants are expected to be available for these dates.
The Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ will collect the personal data via an online platform used by the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ.
The finals will be recorded for radio. If we broadcast your contribution on-air, this may include the programme being available online and/or on demand, and your contribution may be used again in a future broadcast.
We may use your contribution for promotional purposes on the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ’s social media sites.

What personal data will Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ collect and how will we use it?
The Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ will collect your personal data for the purposes of administering the competition. There are two types of personal data: personal data and special category data. Special category data is still personal data, but its processing by the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ requires the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ to follow additional compliance steps.
Personal data:
The Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ will collect and process the following personal data about you:
- Your full name
- Your postal address
- Your age
- Your email address
- Your audio recording
- Your mobile number
- A short description about yourself and your interest in classical music
The Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ may also process special category data depending on the content of your submission to us. This might include for example:
- Racial or ethnic origin
- Religious or philosophical beliefs
- Political opinions
- Health information
- Sex life and sexual orientation
Who is the Data Controller?
The Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ is the “data controller” of your personal data. This means that the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ decides what your personal data is used for, and the ways in which it is processed. For the avoidance of doubt, your personal data will be collected and processed solely for the purposes set out in this privacy notice. As the data controller, the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ has the responsibility to comply, and to demonstrate compliance with, data protection law.
Lawful basis for processing your personal data
The lawful basis on which the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ processes the personal data and special category data is the performance of its public task. The additional basis on which the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ processes your special category data is substantial public interest relating to ‘journalism, academia, art and literature’. The Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ’s role is to act in the public interest and to serve all audiences with content which informs, educates and entertains.
This is consistent with the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ’s wider public purposes under its Royal Charter which requires the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ to, “show the most creative, highest quality and distinctive output and services: the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ should provide high-quality output in many different genres and across a range of services and platforms which sets the standard in the United Kingdom and internationally.”
We also have a legal obligation to process the personal data of the winners to comply with relevant competition regulations.
Sharing your personal data
The Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ works with our approved third-party providers who help us to provide some of our services. These partners only use your personal data on behalf of the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ and not independently of the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ.
We will share information about the nominees with the judges of the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio Scotland Young Classical Musician Competition 2025 This includes the audio and written application that the nominees submit to allow the judges to shortlist candidates.
We may share personal data with a third-party where required or permitted by law.
Retaining your personal data
If your nomination is not shortlisted, your personal data will be deleted on 25 January 2025
Details of the shortlisted nominations will be kept for no longer than twelve (12) months after the grand final on 14 June 2025
The winner’s name and contact details will be kept for two (2) years after the ceremony.
If you feature on a broadcast or online content this will be retained and archived by the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ in accordance with the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ’s Archiving Policy.
Your data will be stored within the UK and European Economic Area (EEA).
Your rights and more information
You have rights under data protection law:
- You can request a copy of the personal data Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ stores about you.
- You have the right to request that we rectify any inaccurate or incomplete personal data that we hold about you.
- You have the right to ask for the personal data we collect about you to be deleted however there are limitations and exceptions to this right which may entitle the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ to refuse your request.
- In certain circumstances, you have the right to restrict the processing of your personal data or to object to the processing of your personal data.
- You have the right to ask that we transfer the personal data to you or to another organisation, in certain circumstances.

Updating this privacy notice
We will revise the privacy notice if there are significant changes to how we use your personal data.
