Meet Iszi Lawrence
Iszi Lawrence is a stand-up comedian, podcaster and children's author.
She has been appearing on radio, TV and podcast series for several years. As well as being Your Place or Mine's resident geographer, historian and comedian, Iszi has worked as a co-presenter on Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio 4's Making History.
Alongside her role as a 'history cheerleader', Iszi has written successful children's history books, including The Time Machine Next Door series and Blackbeard's Treasure, a historically accurate pirate novel for children. Iszi is also well-known among fans of history documentaries, having contributed to productions for channels like Yesterday, Sky History and Netflix.
Although Iszi's expertise spans a wide range of historical subjects, her educational background lies in geography, which explains her role as Shaun Keaveny's official side-kick on Radio 4's Your Place or Mine.
Iszi's comedy career has taken her far and wide, but it was her multicultural family from both Morocco and Australia that first opened her eyes to the world. She has performed in numerous countries and in unconventional venues, such as The British Museum, Cardiff Castle and Oxford University's Ashmolean museum. Additionally, Iszi showcases her comedic talents at science festivals and co-hosts a popular podcast, Terrible Lizards, where she explores her passion for dinosaurs.
In her leisure time, Iszi practices Japanese Jiu-Jitsu, a martial art that inspired her debut novel The Unstoppable Letty Pegg, which uncovers the true story of the Jiu-Jitsu suffragettes.
Iszi lives in Reading, UK with a poet and two cats.
