Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio 6 Music's Glastonbury coverage broadcast in HD Sound

Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio 6 Music is set to broadcast this weekend's comprehensive coverage of the Glastonbury Festival 2011 in HD Sound, allowing listeners who tune in online, through bbc.co.uk/glastonbury, to enjoy the sounds of the festival in the best audio quality the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ has to offer.

Coverage starts on Thursday 23 June, with a broadcasting first – a triple cast across 6 Music, Radio 1 and Radio 2. In this two-hour special, called Introducing Glastonbury, Steve Lamacq, Jo Whiley and Zane Lowe celebrate the best of Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Introducing, preview what's coming up over the weekend and talk to legendary festival organiser Michael Eavis about why Glastonbury is such a special fixture in the musical year. The show also features live performances from Noah And The Whale and Dry The River.

The weekend coverage continues live from site each morning (Friday to Sunday) starting with Adam & Joe at 10am and ending at 10pm when Steve Lamacq presents live music from the headlines acts across the Pyramid, Other, Peel, Park and West Holts stages.

Paul Rodgers, Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio 6 Music says: "To be able to offer 6 Music's coverage in HD quality upgrades our offering this year. I hope it will enhance the experience for those listeners enjoying the festival from the comfort of their own mud free living rooms."

Notes to Editors

HD Sound uses improved encoding and higher bit rates to offer the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ's highest audio quality broadcast to date. It also offers a wider dynamic range, accentuating the difference in volume between quiet and loud sounds.

Appreciation of the improved sound quality will depend on the equipment used – those using small speakers built into a laptop may not notice a big difference, but listeners with a computer connected to a good-quality sound system or high-quality headphones should be able to appreciate the extra clarity and detail in the sound.

Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio 6 Music is an interactive digital radio station that celebrates the alternative spirit of music and culture. In Q3 2010, 6 Music posted a record weekly audience reach of 1.2 million listeners, making it the biggest and most listened to digital-only radio station in the UK. Talent on the network include a stellar line-up of trusted guides, from Steve Lamacq, Lauren Laverne and Jarvis Cocker, to Cerys Matthews, Tom Ravenscroft and Adam & Joe.
