Peter Capaldi (The Thick Of It), David Morrissey (Five Days, Doctor Who), Jonas Armstrong (Robin Hood, The Street), Ford Kiernan (Still Game, No Holds Bard), Derek Riddell (Five Days, Ugly Betty), Bronagh Gallagher (The Accused, Tamara Drew, The Commitments) and Jayd Johnson (River City) have been cast in Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Scotland's adaptation of Field Of Blood made by Slate Films which starts shooting in Glasgow this week.
Adapted from the popular Denise Mina novel and written and directed by David Kane (Taggart, Rebus, Sea Of Souls), crime drama Field Of Blood is set in Glasgow, 1982, and centres on would-be journalist Paddy Meehan (Jayd Johnson), a young copygirl working in a newspaper office.
Stuck in an almost exclusively male-dominated world of limited opportunities and cynicism, Paddy dreams of becoming an investigative journalist - believing that in miscarriages of justice, reporters are sometimes the only hope. Funny, smart, and feisty, Paddy seizes an opportunity to kick start her career and becomes embroiled in a dark murder case. For Paddy, it's the opportunity of a lifetime but comes at great personal cost.
Peter Capaldi, who plays experienced journalist Dr Peter, says: "David Kane is one of our finest writers and directors. It's great to see the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ producing his work again and I'm delighted to be a part it. Field Of Blood is a sharp and sardonic thriller in a setting that's been crying out to be on film for years, a Glasgow newspaper office. And I'll be drawing upon my own experiences of Glasgow's finest journalists to inspire my role."
Jayd Johnson, who plays Paddy Meehan, adds: "I am thrilled to be given the chance to work with such an amazing cast including Peter Capaldi, David Morrissey, Jonas Armstrong and Ford Kiernan – I know I will learn a lot from them all. The character of Paddy Meehan is amazing, she's so feisty and fierce and passionate about her work which I love about her. She's got such a good heart and just wants to do good and make a difference."
Field Of Blood also stars Stephen McCole (High Times, Single Father), Brian Pettifer (Hattie, Rab C Nesbitt), Alana Hood (Harley Street), Gavin Mitchell (Still Game), Matt Costello (Still Game) and William Ruane (River City), amongst others.
Filming on Field Of Blood starts this week on location in Glasgow until early November. The drama will transmit on Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ One Scotland in 2011.
Field Of Blood is produced by Willy Wands (River City, Rebus, The Magdalene Sisters) and its executive producers are Andrea Calderwood (The Last King Of Scotland, Generation Kill) for Slate North, Gaynor Holmes for Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Scotland with support from Creative Scotland. Field Of Blood was commissioned by Ewan Angus, Commissioning Editor, Scotland.
