Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Scottish Symphony Orchestra and Cove Park to collaborate on unique opportunity

Calling Young Scottish Composers...

A young composer in Scotland is being offered a unique opportunity by the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Scottish Symphony Orchestra and Scotland's international artist residency centre Cove Park to develop his or her talent with guidance from Stuart MacRae, one of Scotland's leading composers.

Applications are being sought from composers aged 21 to 30 years, working in Scotland, for a residency which will develop the successful applicant's techniques while workshopping his or her own composition for the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ SSO. The residency will include time spent at Cove Park, located on Loch Long, with visits from members of the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ SSO and mentoring by MacRae.

After the residency's conclusion, there will be a public workshop and recording of the piece with the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ SSO at City Halls, Glasgow, conducted by Matthias Pintscher, the orchestra's recently appointed Artist in Association and an internationally acclaimed composer.

The chosen composer will be provided with four weeks of residency at Cove Park, accommodation on site, the support of Cove Park's staff and access to all of the organisation's facilities. To accommodate the successful composer's schedule, it is anticipated that the residency will be undertaken in various weeks in the period November 2010 to January 2011.

Applicants are required to submit a composition along with a CV and a statement about why they wish to take part, before 5pm on 27 September 2010.

This residency is made possible by a grant from Creative Scotland and the commitment of time and resources by the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ SSO.

More information, including how to apply and terms and conditions can be found at or by contacting Julian Forrester on 01436 850123.
