Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Oxford's Sony-nominated world music programme, Global Echoes, returns to Sunday evenings, from 9pm throughout August.

Now in its seventh series, the programme will feature master of the ragtime guitar Duck Baker; an insight into the neglected Finnish tango with Uusikuu and a glimpse of life on the road with the Warsaw Village Band. Presenter Marcos will also be talking to some prominent people with Oxfordshire links, with a little-known interest in world music, including Philip Pullman, Shami Chakrabarti and Jon Snow – who will recount how they fell in love the music of another culture.

Since Global Echoes began three years ago a plethora of artists have given their time, playing and discussing their music on air, including Hariprasad Chaurasia, Rodrigo y Gabriela, Simphiwe Dana, Davy Graham, Sidi Goma, Partho Sarodi, Son de la Frontera, The Groanbox Boys, Juldeh Camara and Bob Harris.

Marcos has been making programmes and features for Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ World Service and Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio 3 since 1990, and is the author of the first biography in English on the flamenco icon CamarΓ³n. The Global Echoes team is completed by reporter Rich Ward, producer Ross Heaton and researcher Andrew Findlay.

Marcos and Rich often visit the artists in their homes or spend time with them minutes before they go on stage.

Rich says: "The programme was conceived as a celebration of people who play world music throughout Oxfordshire, but it soon also became a home for many of the world's finest artists to tell their own special stories as they pass through the county."
