Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Singers come to Darlington

The Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Singers – the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ's professional chamber choir – will be in Darlington on Friday 16 July from 4-5pm, where they will be performing at the Education Village for students who have been working on a special media project with the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ. Members of the public are welcome, too.

The Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Singers perform all over the UK and abroad, working regularly with the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ's own orchestras.

The choir is also committed to sharing its creative expertise through its nationwide outreach programme. The Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Singers were invited to be part of Darlington Community Heroes – a project that involves students creating a series of films, radio shows, podcasts and websites aimed at recognising the contribution made by local people in making the community a better place to live.

To support the project, the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ has provided workshops for the students in television and radio production, web research and blogging, drama and performing arts sessions and print journalism (in association with the Northern Echo).

This concert, given by the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Singers, hopes to provide an inspirational moment in the project to celebrate the local community through a unique afternoon of music performance by one of the world's great vocal ensembles.

Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Tees Editor, Matthew Barraclough, says: "This is a wonderful opportunity for our listeners to experience such great music and performance from the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Singers on this, a rare visit for them, to our area".

The term's work will culminate in a Community Heroes Award show, which will take place on Saturday 24 July at the school, hosted by CΒι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ presenter Ed Petrie.

To get free tickets to see the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Singers at the Education Village, please call in to the school's reception on Salter's Lane South, Darlington.
