Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Essex are sewn on Brownies' radio jingle

Brownies are being helped by Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Essex to get a special badge to mark the organisation's centenary year – by recording their own radio jingle.

Billericay-based 6th Chantry Brownies came up with a jingle to promote the organisation, which will be broadcast on the Dave Monk Show on 28 May.

All of the group's 24 girls, aged between seven and ten, are working towards their Adventure 100 badge.

Jacqui Watson, one of the group's leaders, said: "The girls were thrilled when they heard they were going to be recording their jingle at the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ.

"We asked the girls to come up with lots of words that describe and promote the Brownies and then they used a keyboard to work out a tune. It's a very short and simple tune and the girls can't wait to hear it played out on Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Essex – it's something they'll remember for the rest of their lives."

Producing a radio jingle is one of ten suggested tasks the girls need to complete in order to earn the yellow triangle badge, which features the word 'Adventure' and a '100' logo stitched in pink.

The jingle features the Brownies singing a tune they penned themselves, which was recorded at Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Essex's studios. Pack leaders and the girls were also interviewed by Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Essex about life in the Brownies and given a tour of the radio station.

Chris Penhall, a presenter and producer at Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Essex, has been working with the girls as part of her Helpline radio slot.

She said: "My daughters were Brownies years ago so I'm used to them wanting to earn as many badges as possible. The Helpline slot is all about helping people in the community; the Brownies' motto is 'lend a hand' and we were more than happy to do this and give them a voice."
