Listener comment and better navigation key to new Radio 5 Live website

Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio 5 Live's ground-breaking new website, bbc.co.uk/5live, brings speech radio's on-air output and its online offer closer than ever before with a new fresh look and feel.

A key feature of the site – 5 Live Now – pulls together listener texts, pictures, emails, blog comments, Tweets and Facebook messages on to a single page.

The messages appear in real-time along with the discussion on air. The service allows a far greater percentage of audience opinion from a multitude of channels to feature online and on air.Β

The service is currently available duringΒ the 5 Live Breakfast phone-in (9.00-10.00am, weekdays)Μύ²Ή²Τ»ε will be rolled out to other programmes.

He says: "The new website is a crucial element of taking the station to new listeners.

"It's great that 5 Live is the first website to feature this innovative way of navigating to key pieces of audio. It's a huge step forward as we develop the station and it will help listeners find the sheer breadth of what 5 Live offers."

The station continues to gain audiences on digital platforms with large numbers listening via the website, across the wider bbc.co.uk, on digital TV, digital radio and mobile.

The new site features an easy-to-navigate archive of film reviews from Simon Mayo and Mark Kermode, the essential weekly guide to help you find the best way to spend a night at the cinema or in on the sofa.Β

The programme is streamed live inΒ vision online when broadcast from the studio each week and is a hugely popular podcast.

The station recorded its biggest audience reach for five years in the most recent RAJAR audience figures. Radio 5 Live, including Radio 5 Live Sports Extra, has a weekly reach of 6.32 million.Β This was an increase of 216,000 on the previous quarter and an increase of 235,000 on the year.

During the recent triumphant Ashes series, throughout August 1,570,600 requests were made for Test Match Special commentary via Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ iPlayer.
