Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Two announces today that new comedy Roger And Val Have Just Got In, which is due to start production later this month, has cast Alfred Molina to play Roger alongside Dawn French as Val.
Best known for his role as the villain Doctor Octopus in Spiderman 2, Alfred has a career that spans TV, film and stage. His film credits include Chocolat, The Da Vinci Code, Boogie Nights and Frida, for which he was BAFTA nominated.
Alfred said: "A truly great script, a brilliantly talented leading lady, and a gifted production team – it's an irresistible combination, and I am thrilled to be a part of it."
Dawn added: "It's a measure of how unique, rich and funny the scripts are, that Fred Molina said 'Yes' in a heartbeat."
Developed by the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ from an original idea by Dawn French, the series is written by Emma and Beth Kilcoyne (Dogtown).
The six x 30-minute series will feature the lives of a middle-aged couple after they've come through the door at the end of the working day.
Mark Freeland, Head of Comedy at the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ, said: "In-house Comedy is proudly welcoming back Alfred to British TV with open arms. I know, in this special, heartfelt comedy, alongside Dawn, the audience will do the same."
The series is a Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Vision production produced by Pete Thornton (Jam And Jerusalem, The Smoking Room).
The executive producers are Mark Freeland and Hugo Blick (Marion And Geoff, Sensitive Skin).
Roger And Val is due to be broadcast in 2010.
