Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Online coverage of Wimbledon breaks records for most popular live video streams of sporting event

Roger Federer's victory over Andy Roddick in the Wimbledon Men's Final was watched by a peak audience of 11.2 million (6.25pm) viewers on Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ One yesterday evening.

This peak figure represented a 57% share of the TV audience while an average audience of 7.5 million watched Federer secure his 15th Grand Slam title.

This year's Ladies' Wimbledon Final in which Serena Williams beat older sister Venus and won her third Wimbledon title was watched by a peak audience of 4.2 million, with the match averaging 3.4 million.

The 2009 Wimbledon Championships saw more users than ever logging on to follow the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ coverage online.

The Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Sport website received a record breaking 2.1 million requests for Centre Court coverage on Friday as users logged on to follow the Andy Murray v Andy Roddick match.

This proved the most popular single live video stream for sport, beating the record seen during the 2008 Olympics.

Across the fortnight, the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Sport website received a total of 19.3 million requests for Wimbledon audio-visual content (live and on-demand) of which 16.2 million was to live coverage – three-and-a-half times more than for live streams across the 2008 tournament.

The Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Red Button once again proved extremely popular with viewers and an impressive 7.5 million chose to press red and follow the dedicated Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ coverage of the Wimbledon Championships.
