Radio 3 has supported 70 New Generation Artists over the past 10 years. The ongoing scheme provides some of the world's most exciting young artists with a wide-ranging programme of opportunities and experiences over a two-year period. Many of the NGA alumni are now firmly established as among the leading musicians on the international scene, including such respected artists as mezzo-soprano Alice Coote and soprano Ailish Tynan – who perform at this year's First Night – and trumpeter Alison Balsom, who plays on the Last Night. There are currently 14 artists and ensembles on the scheme.

Adam Gatehouse, founder of Radio 3's New Generation Artists scheme, says: "The New Generation Artists' involvement in this year's Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Proms demonstrates the remarkable calibre of the participants – past and present – and is a powerful testimony to Radio 3's commitment to discovering and nurturing exceptional talent. Radio 3 New Generation Artists Weekend – Cadogan Hall
(29–31 Aug)

Each of the three days will host four chamber music concerts at Cadogan Hall with over 50 past and present New Generation Artists performing a huge range of music, as soloists and chamber musicians, including four Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ commissions, two of which are world premieres.

The programme of events for the weekend comprises:

Jerusalem Quartet playing Haydn and Pavel Haas Quartet and Colin Currie performing Goehr's Since Brass nor Stone, commissioned for them by the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ and the RPS in 2008 (29 Aug, 11.00am)

Alina Ibragimova and Tai Murray performing solo violin works by Bach and Bartok (29 Aug, 1.00pm)

Galliard Ensemble and Aronowitz Ensemble with double bass player Luis Cabrera performing Spohr's Nonet to mark the 150th anniversary of the composer's death (29 Aug, 2.30pm)

Natalie Clein, Tom Poster, Andrew Kennedy, Jennifer Pike and Jonathan Lemalu in a concert marking the 75th anniversary of the deaths of Delius, Elgar and Holst (29 Aug, 4.30pm)

four NGA quartets – Meta4, Psophos Quartet, Royal String Quartet and Pavel Haas Quartet – combining to play the rarely performed Allegro for four string quartets by the near-forgotten Johannes Bernardus van Bree, together with works by Haydn, Debussy and Szymanowski (30 Aug, 11.00am)

current NGA violist Maxim Rysanov playing Bach's Suite No. 4 in E flat major and Danjulo Ishizaka playing Kodaly's Sonata for solo cello (30 Aug, 1.00pm)

Alice Coote and Steven Osborne performing together for the first time with songs from Mahler's Des Knaben Wunderhorn; Martinu's Promenades performed by Emily Beynon, Tai Murray and Mahan Esfahani to mark the 50th anniversary of the composer's death (30 Aug, 2.30pm)

Elizabeth Watts, Daniela Lehner, Alison Balsom and Mahan Esfahani marking four important composer anniversaries: Purcell, Handel, Haydn and Mendelssohn (30 Aug, 4.30pm)

world premiere of Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Proms commission from pianist and composer John McCabe, Study No. 12 (Sonata), written for this weekend and performed by Ashley Wass; and eight cellists – soloists and ensemble members – joining together to perform Villa-Lobos's arrangement of a Bach Prelude and Fugue and Bachiana Brasileira No. 5 with soprano Ailish Tynan in the 50th-anniversary year of the composer's death

Christian Poltera playing Britten Cello Suite No. 3 and the Szymanowski Quartet joining forces with cellist Claudio Bohorquez in Schubert's String Quintet (31 Aug, 2.30pm)

world premiere of Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ commission And Distant Shore by Tom Arthurs, for two trumpets and piano, performed by the composer with Giuliano Sommerhalder and Richard Fairhurst as part of a jazz-influenced programme, also featuring the Aronowitz Ensemble and Gwilym Simcock performing a Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ/RPS Commission from 2008 composed by Simcock, entitled Contours (31 Aug, 4.30pm).
