CΒι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ original new comedy series Roy combines hand-drawn animation with real-world drama

CΒι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ's brand new series Roy, featuring a living cartoon trapped in the real world, is to transmit this Autumn.

This original new comedy, filmed as a fly-on-the-wall documentary series, combines hand-drawn animation with real-world drama as it follows how one boy struggles to fit in.

Roy thinks he's just like any normal 11 year old. Born into a real world, he is an every-day kid living in an every-day house in an every-day street in a suburb of Dublin and inside he feels just like an ordinary kid. He shares the same hopes, aspirations, friendships and fallings out. The trouble is he's animated!

How do you blend in with the crowd when you can squash and stretch, involuntarily turn blue when you're sad, green when you're jealous, and produce a flock of twittering birds when you get a bump on the head?

Anne Gilchrist, Controller, CΒι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ, said: "I've loved the idea of Roy from the moment I heard about it – it's funny, poignant and totally mesmerising to see how an animated boy copes with living in a world of real people. This drama has real relevance to children and deals warmly with the bemusing situation of being a fish-out-of-water."

In each of the 13 half-hour episodes viewers get to know Roy, his family, friends and his local school.

In New Boy, we discover Roy's family as they settle into their new town and Roy's first day at school causes quite a commotion.

In A Matter Of Principal, Roy finds himself in a dilemma when he secretly opens the present his parents intend to give him. Not only does he use it but takes it to school where it is promptly confiscated by his headmaster!

Roy (13 x 28-minutes) has been produced by JAM Media in high definition, and will be broadcast in Autumn 2009.

The Executive Producer for the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ is Sue Nott, Executive Producer for JAM Media is John Rice, and the series is directed by Alan Shannon and produced by Mark Cumberton.
