River City: new cast members set for Shieldinch

Acclaimed Scots actor Ewan Stewart (Rob Roy, Titanic, Looking After Jo Jo) is set for Shieldinch to star in River City, alongside fellow new cast members Frances Grey (Messiah, The Key, Vanity Fair) and Samia Rida (Messages, The Basement).

Μύ

Stewart plays Daniel McKee, who has served time in prison for culpable homicide and returns home to Shieldinch to rebuild his life, building a base in the community to help troubled youths.

Μύ

His wife Marianne (Grey) is a psychiatrist who met her husband as a result of treating him while he was in prison.

Μύ

Marianne sets up a practice in the surgery, working alongside her best pal Dr Sammi Amira (Rida).

Μύ

The three new River City characters will make their first appearance on screen at the end of December, where Sammi's fiancΓ© is killed by a car driven by Ewan Murdoch (Chris Brazier) in an explosive Hogmanay hit-and-run storyline.

Μύ

Ewan Stewart says: "While the girls make a great first impression in Shieldinch, Daniel discovers that not everyone is delighted to see his face again.

Μύ

"When the police turn up to arrest him on his first day back in town, things get off to a rocky start.

Μύ

"It's great to be back filming in Scotland again, and I've filmed some really exciting storylines which will be on screen next year."

Μύ

Frances Grey adds: "It's fantastic to be back working with Ewan Stewart again, as we starred in The Key together. I'm also really enjoying filming in Scotland again."

Μύ

Samia Rida says: "Sammi's life gets very complicated after arriving in Shieldinch.

Μύ

"After losing her fiancΓ© Ben, she becomes romantically involved with Ewan Murdoch, little realising that he was the driver responsible for the hit-and-run."

Μύ

Next year will see additional River City guest cast appearances from Iain de Caestecker (The Little Vampire, Coronation Street, Sixteen Years Of Alcohol) and James Daffern (Love Letters, Secret Smile).

Μύ

Acclaimed Scots producer Willy Wands (Rebus, The Magdalene Sisters) has also joined the River City team as Series Producer, working with the show's Executive Producers Anne Mensah and Gaynor Holmes.

Μύ

Anne Mensah, Head of Drama, Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Scotland says: "I am extremely excited about the future of River City.

Μύ

"It's a delight to welcome talented actors Ewan Stewart, Frances Grey and Samia Rida to the show, as well as Series Producer Willy Wands who brings a wealth of experience with him."

Μύ

Gaynor Holmes adds: "As 2008 draws to an end, we have some real on-screen treats.

Μύ

"In an exciting storyline which spans two episodes, hard man Lenny Murdoch [Frank Gallagher] is taken hostage by his son Ewan [Chris Brazier], ex-wife Mary [Judith Sweeney] and nemesis Archie [Gilly Gilchrist].

Μύ

"And Joyce Falconer returns as Roisin in a festive special which pays homage to the classic Christmas film It's A Wonderful Life.

Μύ

"It's certain to have viewers reaching for their hankies."

Μύ

River City is broadcast on Tuesday evenings at 8.00pm on Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ One Scotland.

Μύ

It can also be viewed on Sky channel 971 and is available on Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ iPlayer.
