Coming to the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ in 2009...The Day Of The Triffids

Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Drama and Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ One present a modern, gripping adaptation of the best selling post-apocalyptic novel The Day Of The Triffids.

Originally written in 1951 by the English science fiction author John Wyndham, The Day Of The Triffids will be adapted by Patrick Harbinson (ER, Law & Order), who will create a fast paced, futuristic and electrifying take on John Wyndham's most penetrating novel, creating an unmissable television event.

The Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ has a rich history of adapting The Day Of The Triffids. The novel was adapted for radio in 1953, 1957 and 1968.

The Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ television production followed in 1981 starring John Duttine as Bill Masen, which was repeated on Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Four in 2006 and 2007.

In 2001 writer Lance Dann adapted the series in two hour-long episodes for the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ World Service.

The Day Of The Triffids is the latest new drama commission for 2009, following in the footsteps of Peter Bowker's Occupation and the first screen adaptation of Andrea Levy's novel Small Island for Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ One, and Joe Penhall's Moses Jones for Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Two.
