New Tricks: Amanda Redman plays Detective Superintendent Sandra Pullman; Alun Armstrong plays Brian Lane; James Bolam plays Jack Halford and Dennis Waterman plays Gerry Standing

New Tricks commissioned for sixth series for Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ One

Following its triumphant return to Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ One, Wall To Wall's hit drama New Tricks has been commissioned for a sixth series for broadcast in 2009.

Μύ

New Tricks stars Amanda Redman, as Superintendent Sandra Pullman, and Dennis Waterman, Alun Armstrong and James Bolam as her team of ex-coppers brought out of retirement to investigate unsolved cases from the past.

Μύ

With ratings peaking at an impressive 9.24 million the current run of New Tricks has comprehensively dominated its slot and has regularly been the most watched programme of the evening.

Μύ

And, according to BARB's Top 70, it has been the most watched programme on British TV for the weeks ending 13ΜύJuly, 3 August and 10 August 2008.

Μύ

New Tricks has also enjoyed huge international success, selling to more than 50 territories.

Μύ

Tom Sherry, Executive Producer for Wall To Wall, says: "The audience's response to the current series of New Tricks shows that it continues to appeal to its loyal fans whilst also attracting new viewers.

Μύ

"Amanda, Dennis, Alun and James have brought real depth, warmth and humour to their characters, but I know there is still much more we can do with the series.

Μύ

"It is the show's ability to be both humorously entertaining and, from time to time, tackle darker issues which keeps all the team keen to come back and make next year even better."

Μύ

Eleanor Moran, Executive Producer, Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Independents, says: "'Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Drama is delighted that New Tricks will be returning in 2009 for a sixth series.

Μύ

"James, Alun, Dennis and Amanda are a dream team of talent that Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ One viewers have taken to their hearts and we're proud to present the new series to its millions of fans next year."

Μύ

Filming on the new eight-part series will begin later this year at Pinewood Studios and on location in and around London.

Press quotes

Μύ

"It may not have CSI's $3m-an-hour budget, but New Tricks isn't just our most popular show – it's proper genre-mashing cutting-edge Brit TV. Of the old school." Guardian (12.08.08)

Μύ

"It's simply a well crafted, well acted whodunit without an agenda. No wonder audiences are lapping it up." Mail On Sunday (10.08.08)

Μύ

"The Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ's New Tricks proves there's no need to teach old (!) actors much – just give 'em a good show and they'll do the rest. Retired detectives looking into unsolved crimes doesn't sound too sexy, but solid stories and acting are pulling big audiences. On Monday (28.07.08) New Tricks peaked with 8.7 million people – more viewers than Corrie or EastEnders." Daily Mirror (30.07.08)

Μύ

"Never afraid to poke fun at itself and its leading actors, this amusing crime drama turns on the Little Britain joke that Dennis Waterman often writes and sings the theme tune of programmes in which he features (even this one, rather gloriously)." Sunday Times (27.07.08)

Μύ

"Bold is the detective drama that contains the line 'I don't watch police shows. Load of rubbish'. But when you have ratings like New Tricks – this series' debut attracted nearly nine million viewers – you can afford to be bold. Moreover, New Tricks again pulls off the neat feat of being grim and jaunty simultaneously." The Guardian (21.07.08)
