Radio Bristol kicks off new commentary deal

Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio Bristol has announced a new commentary deal to provide fans of Bristol City and Bristol Rovers with expert coverage of all league away games during the 2008/09 football season.

Μύ

The new agreement ensures that supporters of both Bristol clubs can keep up to date with their teams' fortunes if they are unable to follow them on their away-day excursions.

Μύ

Fans of Bristol City are looking for the club to build on last season's progress when they just missed out on promotion to the Barclays Premier League in the Coca-Cola Championship play-off final at Wembley.

Μύ

Bristol Rovers fans will expect the team to push on after consolidating their League One status last season, following promotion from League Two, via the play-offs, in 2007.

Μύ

Tim Pemberton, Managing Editor, Radio Bristol, says: "I'm really pleased that we are able to provide this service to fans of both Bristol City and Bristol Rovers, it is excellent news.

Μύ

"I know from feedback we received at the end of last season that football followers of both clubs really value this service.

Μύ

"We have worked hard with both clubs to find ways of providing this service in the future."

Μύ

Colin Sexstone, Chief Executive, Bristol City Football Club, says of the deal: "We're delighted to be working once more with Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio Bristol. They have served us fantastically over many years and are very popular with our supporters, so we look forward to this partnership continuing."

Μύ

Ron Craig, Chairman, Bristol Rovers FC, says: "We are delighted that Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio Bristol will be providing full coverage of all Rovers away league matches this season.

Μύ

"Fans who cannot attend away games are always looking for as much information as they can get on these matches, and you cannot get much better than a full live commentary."

Μύ

He continues: "Such coverage helps to maintain supporters' connection with the club during the blank Saturday when we are away, and encourages attendance at the following home games."

Μύ

Former footballer and Radio Bristol's Sports Editor Geoff Twentyman expects the new season to be as exciting as ever.

Μύ

He says: "Bristol City came so close last year to bringing Premier League football to the area and Bristol Rovers will be pushing to make it into the Championship.

Μύ

"Being able to guarantee live commentary on all the away games will ensure that we capture all the drama for our listeners."

Μύ

The new football season kicks off on Saturday 9ΜύAugust with an away game for Bristol City at Blackpool.

Μύ

Bristol Rovers' first away game on Radio Bristol is on 16ΜύAugust, away to Brighton and Hove Albion.

Μύ

Fans of both Bristol teams can keep up to date with their own team's fortunes by tuning into Saturday Sport from 2pm throughout the season on Radio Bristol.
