Michael Rosen reads Bedtime Stories

Michael Rosen reads Bedtime Stories

Next week's Bedtime Stories on the CBeebies channel will be read by the Children's Laureate, Michael Rosen.

Μύ

Michael has chosen five of his favourite children's books to read.

Μύ

They are: Ruby Sings The Blues (Niki Daly); Eliza And The Moonchild (Emma Chichester Clark); Farmer Duck (Martin Waddell); The Opposite (Tom Macrae) and Slinky Malinki Catflaps and Hairy Maclary Of Donaldson's Dairy (both by Lynley Dodd).

Μύ

Michael said: "I chose these stories because they are rhythmic and full of feeling and fun.

Μύ

"I think it's really important that children hear the sounds of stories read with full colour and characterisation. Stories on the page need to be lifted and dramatised.

Μύ

"I hope if mums and dads are watching they'll think... 'I could read a story like that'."

Μύ

Broadcaster, children's author and poet Michael Rosen became the fifth Children's Laureate in June 2007, succeeding Jacqueline Wilson, and holds this honour until 2009.

Μύ

In 1969, Michael became a graduate trainee at the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ, working first in radio, then at Playschool, followed by a stint in schools television.

Μύ

In 1972, he attended the National Film School for three years, and his first book of poems for children was published in 1974.

Μύ

Since 1976, Michael has done a mixture of writing, performing, teaching, lecturing, as well as appearing on radio and television.

Μύ

He has played a key role in opening up poetry to children, both through his own writing and with anthologies.

Μύ

He was one of the first poets to visit schools throughout the UK.

Μύ

In 1993 he gained an MA in children's literature from Reading University; he also holds a PhD from the University of North London.

Μύ

His books for children include the titles Burping Bertha, Snore!, Sad Book (which was awarded the Exceptional Award for Best Children's Illustrated Books of 2004 in age 4-11 range by The English Association), Wouldn't You Like To Know, You Wait Till I'm Older Than You, The Michael Rosen Book Of Nonsense and No Breathing In Class.

Μύ

Bedtime Stories are produced by Angela Young for CBeebies Presentation.

Μύ

You can see Michael reading the stories from Monday 19 to Friday 23 May on the CBeebies channel at 6.45 pm.

Μύ

Ruby Sings The Blues and Eliza And The Moonchild will be repeated on Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 at 6.45pm.
