Wales Today sends Bluebirds fan to Wembley 81 years on
Cardiff City face one of their biggest challenges in just over 80 years this Sunday when they take on Barnsley in their FA Cup semi-final.

And, thanks to Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Wales Today, a 97-year-old Bluebirds fan who was at Wembley in 1927 when Cardiff last lifted the FA Cup will be at Wembley again to cheer on his team.

David Morgan, a retired bank manager from Penarth, was featured on Wales Today last year as part of the 80th anniversary celebrations of Cardiff City's 1927 win.

Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Wales' flagship news programme learned recently that David – who has been a Cardiff City fan all his life – had not got a ticket for the game and so managed to track a ticket down and arrange to send him to the game on Sunday.

David has vivid memories of his trip to Wembley 81 years ago.

He explains to Wales Today that, as a 16-year-old boy, he was home from boarding school in the Easter holidays in 1927 and his father had arranged the ultimate treat – a trip to London to see the final.

David says of the game: "It was tremendous, of course, the excitement was terrific. And when Cardiff scored 15 minutes before the end, I thought that the last 15 minutes were the longest 15 minutes of my life, great excitement."

After waiting 81 years to return to Wembley for a crucial Bluebirds game David is excited at the prospect of Sunday's game.

"It's a great occasion and I'm looking forward to it," he says. "I'm hoping that Cardiff City are going to win and get in the final and I hope I'll be there for the final."

But he says he did not expect to have to wait quite so long: "I certainly didn't, but I expect the longer it is the more exciting it is."

David gave up his season ticket a few years ago but still manages to get along to home games.

"I haven't got a season ticket now, but I sometimes go along with my grandson as he is a keen supporter,"
he says.

Cameras will follow David's Wembley adventure on Sunday and viewers can see the results in a special report to be featured in Wales Today on Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ One Wales on Monday 7 April 2008 from 6.30pm.

David will also feature in a special preview of the game on the programme on Friday (4 April), giving his memories of Cardiff's 1927 FA Cup win.
