Â鶹ԼÅÄ lines up for the 2008 Grand National


With comprehensive live coverage on Â鶹ԼÅÄ One and µþµþ°äÌý°Õ·É´Ç, Â鶹ԼÅÄ Radio 5 Live and bbc.co.uk/sport, the Â鶹ԼÅÄ ensures that not a moment from the 2008 John Smith's ³Ò°ù²¹²Ô»åÌý±·²¹³Ù¾±´Ç²Ô²¹±ô is missed.

The Â鶹ԼÅÄ's coverage of the 161st running of the world's most famous steeplechase will be presented by Clare Balding with Rishi Persad.

Ìý

Clare and Rishi are joined by Richard Pitman, Richard Dunwoody and Norman Williamson reporting and providing analysis from the paddock.

Ìý

Fans' favourite and Aintree regular John Parrott will be out and about seeking tips, getting involved with jockeys, trainers and punters, as well as talking to the celebrities he meets on his travels.

Ìý

The Â鶹ԼÅÄ's expert commentary team is led by Jim McGrath, who is joined by Ian Bartlett, Tony O'Hehir and Darren Owen for the big race.

Ìý

And reporter Dan Walker joins the team and will be bringing the colour and the characters of Aintree to the screen.

Live Â鶹ԼÅÄ television coverage from Aintree includes five races each day on Thursday 3 April and Friday 4 April on Â鶹ԼÅÄ Two. Coverage on both days begins at 1.45pm.

Saturday's Grand National programme on Saturday 5 April begins at 1.00pm on Â鶹ԼÅÄ Two with two races.

Ìý

Coverage then transfers to Â鶹ԼÅÄ One at 2.30pm, after the FAÌýCup semi-final between Portsmouth and West Bromwich Albion, and will include live coverage of another two races followed by the build up to the main race which will run at 4.15pm.

The Â鶹ԼÅÄ's 52-camera operation will include 14 radio cameras, two in-fence cameras, three super slow cameras, as well as two roving camera cars bringing new angles of the fallers and the race favourite in action.

Ìý

And, in a first for Â鶹ԼÅÄ Sport, the Vortex camera will be used, allowing a camera to be hoisted to a height of 30 metres in just 15 seconds.

In addition to the cameras on the ground, there will also be a helicopter camera providing a unique bird's-eye view of the drama of the Grand National, which will enable viewers to see how the action unfolds at every fence.

The Â鶹ԼÅÄ's countdown to the world's most famous steeplechase begins on the Friday before the big race at 7.00pm on Â鶹ԼÅÄ Two with the Grand National Preview.

The preview will be shown again as a rolling repeat on Â鶹ԼÅÄi from 7.30pm.

Ìý

Radio 5 Live will also bring live commentary on all three days of Aintree, culminating in the Grand National on the Saturday.

Racing correspondent Cornelius Lysaght has the latest runners and riders, course news and interviews with top names. John Hunt heads up the commentary team.

There will be previews and interviews building up to the big race across the 5 Live schedule.

Ìý

The Simon Mayo show (1.00-4.00pm) features live commentary of the first four races on both Thursday 3 and Friday 4 April.

Ìý

And Mark Pougatch hosts a weekend preview show from Liverpool's Cavern Club in 5 Live Sport on Friday night from 7pm, featuring jockeys riding in the Grand National plus pundits Andrew Thornton and Mark Pitman.

Luke Harvey broadcasts live from the course during 5 Live Breakfast on all three days of the meeting (6.00-9.00am).

Ìý

Mark Pougatch hosts the Saturday afternoon 5 Live Sport show from Aintree from midday on Saturday, with commentary on four races including, of course, the National itself.

Ìý

The commentary team is John Hunt, Gary O'Brien, Matthew Hill and Malcolm Tomlinson with expert comment from former jockey Luke Harvey, betting news from Rob Nothman and expert pundit Mark Pitmanjoining the team for the Saturday.
