Radio 1's Big Weekend - The Fringe Festival

Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio 1 DJ Zane Lowe is calling for bands from Maidstone and across Kent to get in touch with Radio 1 for the chance to be part of Radio 1's Big Weekend - The Fringe Festival.

Μύ

The Fringe will celebrate the local music scene, from guitar bands through to bedroom DJs, MCs and everything in between.

Μύ

The event takes place in the town in the week preceding Radio 1's Big Weekend.

Μύ

Bands can apply by going to bbc.co.uk/radio1/bigweekend where all the details of how to get your band on to the Fringe Festival are explained.

Μύ

A panel made up of Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Kent Introducing presenters James Bursey and Tom Kirkby, Radio 1 DJ Huw Stephens, the Radio 1 Live events team and Radio 1 producers will be responsible for selecting the bands to play live at the Fringe.

Μύ

Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Kent Introducing will host a night during the Fringe featuring bands selected by the show. From this line-up Huw Stephens will choose his two favourite bands who will go on to play the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Introducing stage at Radio 1's Big Weekend.

Μύ

Neil Wyatt, Executive Producer Radio 1 Live Events, said: "Radio 1's Big Weekend is the UK's biggest free ticketed music festival and is going to be a massive event for the people of Maidstone and Kent, but it is not just about the huge artists that perform on the main stage to thousands of people.

Μύ

"The Fringe Festival is our chance for Radio 1 and Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Introducing to highlight the best of Kent's local music scene, with a week of live music showcasing the best that Kent can offer.

Μύ

"And for two of Kent's most talented acts there will be the chance of a lifetime - to perform at the main event on the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Introducing stage."

Μύ

James Bursey, Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Introducing Kent, said: "For most Kent bands, sending in your demo to Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Kent Introducing and walking out on a stage in front of thousands of people are miles apart.

Μύ

"But with the Radio 1's Big Weekend Fringe Festival some of the incredible talent we've got in the county will be making that very jump in just weeks.

Μύ

"That's why it's incredible to be involved in this, a real opportunity to help kick start a Kent musician's career and put the Kent music scene on the map."
