Radio 1 announces new signings for In New DJs We Trust show

Â鶹ԼÅÄ Radio 1 announced today (Friday 11 January) changes to its ever-evolving In New DJs We Trust shows. Dave Spoon and Nerm & D-Code will join the weekly rotational line-up alongside DJs Kutski and Kissy Sell Out.

The refreshed line-up continues the regular six-monthly evolutions of the In New DJs We Trust show. Radio 1 champions the most important new dance music genres, whilst also giving new and emerging talent their first chance to broadcast on national radio.

The new line-up will be broadcast (in order of rotation) from Thursday night/Friday morning on 1 February 2008 from 2.00 to 4.00am:

- Dave Spoon – Electro House
- Kutski – Hard Dance/Hardcore
- Kissy Sell Out – Electro/Rave Mash Ups
- Nerm & D-Code – Drum & Bass

Nerm & D-Code said: "Being signed to In New DJs We Trust feels like we've lost our virginity all over again (and no, not with each other) – just a massive mix of emotions, ecstatically happy but a little nervous, relieved but still excited, and just generally looking forward to what lies ahead! Being on Radio 1 alongside the best DJs in the world is an honour. We've got loads of ideas of how we want to shape the show, but if you asked us to sum it up in a few words 'Glitter-Stepping, Punk-Stepping, Mashup Drum & Bass and Exclusive Dubplates' spring to mind!"

Dave Spoon

Dave Spoon, aka Simon Neale, aged 30, is from Portsmouth. He has been playing with electronic music for years. He grew up listening to a mixture of synth-pop and early Nineties House, and attended a secondary school that had an undiscovered TB303 and Juno 60 in the music room cupboard.

Nowadays using his Dave Spoon alias he's firmly established himself as one of the hottest DJ/producers the scene has to offer, releasing top quality productions with his trademark groove and rocking dance floors across the globe.

Signing 21st Century to Toolroom Records in 2004 was a key point for Spoon, an instant success supported by the likes of Pete Tong and Roger Sanchez. The piano-led Sunrise EP followed and was instantly signed to Seamus Haji's Big Love imprint.

With a lot of buzz surrounding his releases, the remixes poured in with re-works for the hottest underground labels including Stealth, Cyber, Toolroom and Cr2.

In 2006, keen to push musical boundaries and break new sounds, Spoon released At Night – a dance floor killer. Championed by everyone from Deep Dish to Tiesto, the track caused a stir on dancefloors. With an added vocal in 2007 from Lisa Maffia the track crossed over as Bad Girl (At Night) on Universal, it was one of the biggest records last summer, earning Spoon his first top 40 hit.

With a Ministry Of Sound Summer Sessions compilation under his belt, remixes of artists like Dizzee Rascal, Pet Shop Boys plus updates of classics such as Gat Décor's Passion, 2007 has moved Spoon further into the limelight.

Having landed himself a show on Radio 1's In New DJs We Trust, writing his artist album and writing with the likes of Pete Tong, it seems a string of new material is soon to be heard on a sound system near you.

Nerm & D-Code

Nerm is 29 from Birmingham, and D-Code is 27 from Essex.
Ìý
Nerm, was into all types of music from Prince to The Prodigy, from Biohazard to The Beatles. By the time Jungle/Drum & Bass emerged it was something that drew him in completely. Ìý
He started DJing with his first residency at the Ministry of Sound in Birmingham in 1998. He then joined club night Swaraj as their headline DJ and featured as the prominent front-man in electronic punk band Charged signed to Nation Records.

D-Code got into dance music from the Hardcore scene, from early raves in Essex and the famous Labyrinth in East London which converted him from raver to DJ. As the scene evolved and took on more influences, so did D-Code.

D-Code started playing sets on London pirate radio stations between 1999 and 2001 as well as having a show on Gaialive.com, one of the first internet radio stations. In 2003 he set up his own studio and went into music production and churned out tune after tune.

Nerm and D-Code met at an East London warehouse party and quickly bonded over their love of music and DJing. D-Code soon joined up with Nerm as part of Shiva Soundsystem and things began to take off. With Shiva Soundsystem, Nerm and D-Code have held down several London residencies, toured India, Venezuela and the USA, played at festivals such as Lovebox, Bestival, Rise and Glastonbury, and featured on radio and TV worldwide, including features on Â鶹ԼÅÄ Two and MTV India and a OneWorld show on Radio 1.

Nerm has hosted Electro East, the Experimental Drum & Bass show on the Â鶹ԼÅÄ Asian Network (Saturday nights, midnight-2am), for the last year-and-a-half and has broken many new artists, exclusives and musical barriers over that time.

D-Code has remixed tracks for Asian Dub Foundation and Riz MC amongst many others. His production work can be heard in almost every big Drum & Bass club in the world with plays from Fabio, Andy C and London Elektricity, as well as support from DJs as diverse as Pete Tong, Huw Stephens, Bobby Friction, Nihal and Colin Murray.

Now, with the Radio 1 In New DJ's We Trust show, the duo promise to take things to the next level.
