Gary Johnson is Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ West Sports Personality of the Year


Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ West Sports Awards celebrate the finest in sporting achievement over the past year.

The awards ceremony, held at the Bristol Marriot Royal, College Green, celebrated 12 different categories and was attended by both professional and amateur sportsmen and women from across the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ West region.

The final award of the evening was the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ West Sports Personality of the Year. The award went to Gary Johnson.

The Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ West Sports Unsung Hero was awarded to Jules Cook, 39, from Bristol. She formed Easton Girls FC eight years ago.

She coaches, raises money, acts as press officer, organises an annual festival, is a taxi driver to the players and also offers counselling.

Jules has affected the lives of hundreds of young girls from this inner city part of Bristol. She also sought and gained a grant as well as achieving an FA Charter for the club. She spends at least 20 hours a week working for Easton Girls.

She will now go forward to the star-studded Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Sports Personality Of The Year programme, where an overall winner will be named on Sunday (9 December).

Sporting Moment of the Year: Yeovil Town overturn a 2-0 deficit against Nottingham Forest to make it to Wembley

Finders Keeper Sports & Marketing Cricketer of the Year: Andrew Caddick (Somerset)

Young Sportsperson of the Year: Jamie Cox (boxer from Swindon)

Contribution to West Country Sport: Ged Roddy (University of Bath for continued success and overseeing development)

Team of the Year: Team Bath, netball

Disabled Sportsperson of the Year: Louise Hunt (from Wanborough, GB wheelchair tennis player and six-times London Marathon Winner)

Robinsons is for the first time the event sponsor of the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ's Sports Personality of the Year.

They are also supporting the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Sports Unsung Hero Award, now in its fifth year, which recognises and rewards outstanding contribution by individuals at the grassroots level of local sport.

Bursaries of up to Β£2,500 are available to the winners of each regional award, to help them with their work in sport.
