Dermot Murnaghan has decided to leave the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ to join Sky News, it was announced today.

Μύ

Dermot has been a presenter of the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ's Breakfast programme since September 2002. During his time presenting Breakfast with co-host Sian Williams, the programme has pushed ahead of GMTV in the ratings and become Britain's most watched breakfast programme with an audience reach of more than 5 million viewers a day.

Μύ

As well as regularly presenting the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ's Six O'Clock News and Ten O'Clock News, Dermot has also been involved in a wide range of other projects at the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ including presenting the daytime quiz show Eggheads on Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ One.

Μύ

Helen Boaden, Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Director of News, said: "Dermot has been a great presenter, much liked by the audience and colleagues alike. We shall miss his professionalism and wry humour but wish him all the best for the future."

Μύ

Dermot Murnaghan said: "I have had a fantastic time at Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ News. I feel pride and fondness for the winning team I have worked with at Breakfast. I wish Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ News all the best for the future."

Μύ

Dermot will continue presenting Breakfast until the end of his contract in December this year.

Μύ

After graduating with an MA in History from Sussex University, Dermot completed a postgraduate course in journalism at City University.

Μύ

He worked as a trainee reporter on local newspapers before joining Channel 4, where he was a regular presenter on Channel 4 News and from 1989 anchored the channel's daily breakfast programme.

Μύ

He also worked on Channel 4's Business Programme and the European Business Channel in Switzerland before being recalled to front ITN's World News on Channel 4 Daily.

Μύ

Before moving to the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Dermot presented ITV's Evening News, as well as the Most Wanted series on LWT and Sieges. Between 1993 and 1997 he presented the channel's weekly current affairs series Big Story.
