Μύ

A performance of the National Theatre of Scotland's acclaimed Black Watch production is to be screened on Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Two Scotland on Monday 27 August.

Μύ

The screening of the performance, which was recorded in Dingwall with a live audience, will be the first television showing of the production, which has garnered international acclaim.

Μύ

Its uncompromising look at events around the Iraq war is underlined with a new documentary, Black Watch: A Soldier's Story.

Μύ

This 60-minute documentary, to be broadcast on Sunday 26 August, not only goes behind the scenes of the National Theatre of Scotland's production, but also tells the real–life stories of Black Watch soldiers who have served on the ground in Iraq.

Μύ

Andrea Miller, Head of Factual at Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Scotland, says: "The National Theatre of Scotland is doing very exciting projects that have had a real impact with audiences in Scotland.

Μύ

"This TV/theatre collaboration around Black Watch is quite unusual and we think the result will be powerful pieces of work which will connect with the our viewers too. We now have two unique pieces of television and can bring an amazing theatrical experience to a wider Scottish audience.

Μύ

"Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Scotland has welcomed the opportunity to work with the National Theatre of Scotland and would very much like to continue this unique partnership to bring new and powerful pieces of work to the screen in the future.

Μύ

"Throughout the production process we have come to share an understanding of the demands on both theatre and television production and have learned much from one another."

Μύ

Roberta Doyle, Director of External Affairs, the National Theatre of Scotland, says: "The recent partnership between the National Theatre of Scotland and Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Scotland has led to the making of two remarkable films.

Μύ

"One film is a hard–hitting but lyrical documentary, with the play of Black Watch at its heart. The second film is an expert and imaginative recording of a Highland performance of the play of Black Watch itself.

Μύ

"Given the complex nature of the Black Watch production, it is a testament to the expertise of the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Scotland team – and to the National Theatre of Scotland's cast, crew and creative team – that the play has translated so very successfully to the screen."
