Abu Ghraib whistleblower gives first UK broadcast interview to Radio 4's The Choice

Joe Darby, the United States soldier who exposed the Iraqi prisoner abuse in Abu Ghraib prison, has given his first UK broadcast interview to Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio 4's The Choice (Tuesday 7 August, 9.02am).

Μύ

In a revealing and frank interview, US military policeman Joe Darby talks about the dilemma he faced when he discovered photographs of the abuse and the decision he had to make about whether to reveal what was happening or to remain loyal to his fellow troops.

Μύ

Speaking to presenter Michael Buerk, Joe explains his deep concern about what might happen when those he helped to imprison are released and he describes how he felt when he was revealed to the world as the whistleblower on live television by the then US Secretary of Defense, Donald Rumsfeld.

Μύ

He also talks about the reaction of fellow troops in his unit after the abuse became public knowledge; whether, in hindsight, he would have acted in the same way if he was to face a similar situation today and if his wife still supports his action in light of the impact it had on their lives.
