Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ "Introducing" new stage at Glastonbury
|
The Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ is launching a new stage at this year's Glastonbury Festival, as
part of its continuing commitment to supporting new music.
Μύ
The Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Introducing. stage will showcase 24 up-and-coming UK artists
over the weekend, nominated by Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ new music shows across the country and
picked by a panel of music experts including Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio 1 DJs Steve Lamacq,
Bobby Friction, Ras Kwame and Huw Stephens, as well as Glastonbury's
Emily Eavis.
Μύ
Huw Stephens announced news of the stage – the first the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ has owned at
the festival – on his Radio 1 show last night.
Μύ
He said: "It's brilliant to give musicians and bands – who might not otherwise get
the chance to pay a big festival – the opportunity to play Glastonbury,
the biggest of them all.
Μύ
"The stage will be a great snapshot of new talent
and up and coming artists from all the over the UK."
Μύ
The stage marks the launch of Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Introducing., which will bring together
new music shows across the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ, including Huw's which will be renamed Huw
Stephens Introducing.
Μύ
It will provide unparalleled opportunities for new artists to be seen and
heard, from live slots at key festivals through to broadcasts on Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ
radio, television and online.
Μύ
Jason Carter, Editor, Live Events, Radio 1 and 1Xtra, leads Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ
Introducing...
Μύ
He said: "It really makes sense for the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ as a whole to draw
together all of our fantastic 'new music' expertise at every level, and
deliver superb opportunities for artists and the best brand new music to
our audiences across platforms."
Μύ
A website – bbc.co.uk/introducing – is the hub of the project,
featuring live performances from the stage and bringing together all the
Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ's new music shows in one place.
