Ailsa Orr named new Head of Programmes for Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Northern Ireland

Ailsa Orr - a programme maker involved in hit Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ programmes Walking With Dinosaurs, Super Volcano, Hannibal and Pompeii The Last Day - is to return from London to be the new Head of Programmes for Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Northern Ireland.

Μύ

She takes over from Peter Johnston, who was recently appointed Controller of Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Northern Ireland, and will formally take up her position in the Spring 2007.

Μύ

Ailsa, 35, who is originally from Donegal, has been working full time with the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ's Factual Department (Science and History) in London for the last five years and has been involved in delivering some of the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ's strongest performing programmes.

Μύ

During that time she also acted as Head of Development for Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Science.

Μύ

Her next big project Superstorm, a futuristic drama documentary series, is a cornerstone of the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ One Winter schedule coming soon.

Μύ

Previous successes also include Neanderthal for Channel 4.

Μύ

Ailsa began her career in Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Northern Ireland's drama department and has worked for the independent sector both locally and in London with companies such as Brian Waddell Productions, Wall to Wall TV and Tigress productions.

Μύ

She is delighted to be returning home.

Μύ

"The timing is just right as Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Northern Ireland is taking new direction and I am looking forward to putting all my experiences and learning in to doing something amazing," she said.

Μύ

"It is great to be able to do this in the place where I first started my career."

Μύ

Peter Johnston, Controller, Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Northern Ireland, said: "We are privileged that someone of Ailsa's calibre will be joining our experienced programme making team in Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Northern Ireland.

Μύ

"Her portfolio speaks louder than any words I can say about her many talents and creativity. We are sure this appointment will help us deliver the very best output for our audiences."

Μύ

Pat Loughrey, Director of Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Nations and Regions, and himself a former Controller of Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Northern Ireland, said: "Ailsa Orr is one of the great programme makers of her generation.

Μύ

"She has been responsible for some of the great TV programmes of recent years and it is a delight to welcome her home to this important position."

Μύ

Ailsa was born in Rathmullan, County Donegal and was educated at the Royal Prior School in Raphoe.

Μύ

She went on to study Drama, Film, Television and English at University in York and completed a Postgraduate in Business and Administration at the Belfast Institute of Higher and Further Education.
