Carolyn Quinn to present Westminster Hour on Radio 4
|
Carolyn Quinn is to present the Westminster Hour, Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio 4's Sunday night
political programme.
Μύ
Carolyn was a Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ political correspondent at Westminster for more than ten
years and has extensive experience of reporting politics and Parliament.
Μύ
She will start presenting the Westminster Hour from January 2007 alongside her
existing presentation work on the Today programme and PM.
Μύ
Radio 4 Controller Mark Damazer said: "I am delighted that Carolyn Quinn will
take over as the presenter of The Westminster Hour.
Μύ
"She has enormous knowledge
of the subject and will bring to the programme both clout and charm."
Μύ
Carolyn freelanced before joining the Irish Post newspaper and was then
selected for a Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ local radio trainee scheme.
Μύ
After training and two years at
Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio Solent in Southampton, Carolyn became a reporter on the local radio
desk for the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ at Westminster.
Μύ
She became a political correspondent
covering TV and radio in 1994, later combining it with a regular presenting slot
on PM.
Μύ
Sue Inglish, Head of Political Programmes, Analysis and Research, Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ News, said: "I'm confident she'll bring great authority and insight to the programme."
Μύ
Carolyn said: "The timing of The Westminster Hour is crucial. People have
told me they listen in the bath or as they're preparing for bed, so the tone
has to be warm but the content informative.
Μύ
"It's a programme that can take
the time to examine issues that otherwise in the hurly burly of day-to-day news
might be overlooked.
Μύ
"I'm really excited to be getting involved with the
Westminster Hour especially at a time when the political climate is so
unpredictable."
Μύ
The Westminster Hour is now in its ninth year and has consistently increased
its audience.
Μύ
The previous presenter, Andrew Rawnsley, who fronted the
programme from the start, left in September to go to ITV's Sunday morning show.
Μύ
The programme has a loyal audience for its intelligent mix of politics and
policy at 10pm on Sunday evenings.
